There are approximately 47 schools within the Georges River Local Government Area.

School zones help protect children travelling to and from school. Most school zones operate from 8:00am to 9:30am and 2:30pm to 4:00pm on notified school days. Drivers must not exceed the posted school zone speed limit, usually 40 km/h.
 

School Zone Safety Tips for Drivers

• Obey all parking signs and park legally around schools.

• Drive at or below 40 km/h in school zones.

• Be alert for children and pedestrians.

• Watch for buses and give way when required.

• Use designated drop-off and pick-up areas where available.

• Drop off and pick up children on the school side of the road.

• Never call children across the road.

• Ensure children enter and exit the vehicle from the kerb side.

• Use the correct child restraint or seatbelt for every journey.

School Zone Safety Tips for walking to and from school

• Plan a safe route and use pedestrian crossings where available.

• Hold your child's hand until at least 8 years of age.

• Closely supervise children near roads and driveways.

• Teach children to stay alert and avoid distractions.

• Use the Stop, Look, Listen, Think method when crossing the road:

  • Stop one step back from the kerb.

  • Look both ways for approaching traffic.

  • Listen for approaching vehicles.

  • Think if it is safe to cross and continue checking until you are safely across.
