Please Note: During peak periods, wait times can be up to 8 weeks.

You can plan ahead and pre-schedule a Bulky Waste Collection up to 10 weeks in advance of your desired date.

  • I am moving house. How do I access a collection?

Book a collection well in advance of your moving date. Wait times can exceed 8 weeks during peak periods.

If you are unable to get a booking in time or have no Bulky Waste Collections available. See the ‘I have no or used my Bulky Waste Collections. What can I do?’ section.

Alternatively, take the items with you and investigate booking a collection at your new home or ask your property manager for further advice.

  • I have no or used my Bulky Waste Collections. What can I do?

Each eligible property is entitled to 2 x 3 cubic metre collections per year.

If both collections have been used for the year, you will need to arrange for the recycling or collection of your items. Some options you can consider are as follows.

  • I have received a non-compliance letter. What do I do now?

A non-compliance letter will be issued if items are placed on the kerbside that are not accepted or fail to meet the Terms and Conditions. Please review the letter and follow instructions, contact the Waste Hotline on 1800 079 390 for further assistance.

    Unaccepted and excess items
This includes untied garden waste, heavy items or excess waste above the booked amount. These items are noted on the non-compliance letter and must be removed from the kerbside immediately, within 48 hours of the notice.

Leaving any items on public land without permission is considered Illegal Dumping, significant fines and enforcement action may apply under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.

Early presentation of materials on the kerbside
Placing items out too early or without a booking is Illegal Dumping, and can:

    • Attract additional dumping including hazardous materials.

    • Impact the cleanliness of our streets and health of our environment.

    • Increase disposal costs to Council and ratepayers.

    • Places constraints and increase risk for operational staff.

If items have been identified as out too early, Council will request removal of items from public land. Items presented earlier than permitted for a confirmed collection booking will be treated and investigated as Illegal Dumping.

Residents or booking agents that fail to remove items may have remaining Bulky Waste Collections allocations removed and significant fines or enforcement action may be applied under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.

  • Why has my Bulky Waste Collection changed from a schedule date to the booking system?

Council sought community feedback regarding Bulky Waste Collection services in 2020. The community expressed a desire for an on-call booked Bulky Waste Collection to be the predominant service as opposed to the pre-scheduled collection (as was offered by the former Kogarah Council).

An online booking system is an improvement to the Bulky Waste Collection service, enabling residents to book a collection service on a date and time that suits them. This is a convenient improvement to services, compared with the pre-scheduled clean up that occurs in the former Kogarah Local Government Area, whereby Council nominated the dates of collection.

  • What if I live in a property rated as a business or non-rateable property?
    • If you live at a property that is rated as a commercial or business property, you are not entitled to the Bulky Waste Collection. This service is provided for domestic properties only.

    • If you are in a non-rateable property and have commercial waste service you are not entitled to a Bulky Waste Collection. This is provided for domestic waste services only.

    • If you are renting a property that is rated as a commercial or business or a non-rateable property, speak to your real estate agent or property manager for options to best manage your waste.

    • If you are the owner and would like to know more about rating categories review the Land Valuations and Rating Categories page.

  • I have a missed mattress or missed bulky waste item collection?

To notify of a missed mattress or Bulky Waste Collection please contact the Waste Hotline on 1800 079 390.

    Please note:

    • Booked mattresses are collected by a separate recycling contractor, at a different time on the collection day. Mattresses placed under other items will not be collected.

    • Bulky waste items should be placed on the kerbside the night before. Non-presentation of waste will still be counted as your allocated Bulky Waste Collection.

    • Any materials not collected due failure to follow the Terms and Conditions are your responsibility. You must reschedule for another Bulky Waste Collection (if there is a remaining allocation available). Or dispose of materials at your own cost.
