  • Why has my Bulky Waste Collection changed from a schedule date to the booking system?

Council sought community feedback regarding Bulky Waste Collection services in 2020. The community expressed a desire for an on-call booked Bulky Waste Collection to be the predominant service as opposed to the pre-scheduled collection (as was offered by the former Kogarah Council).

An online booking system is an improvement to the Bulky Waste Collection service, enabling residents to book a collection service on a date and time that suits them. This is a convenient improvement to services, compared with the pre-scheduled clean up that occurs in the former Kogarah Local Government Area, whereby Council nominated the dates of collection.

  • What if I live in a property rated as a business or non-rateable property?
    • If you live at a property that is rated as a commercial or business property, you are not entitled to the Bulky Waste Collection. This service is provided for domestic properties only.

    • If you are in a non-rateable property and have commercial waste service you are not entitled to a Bulky Waste Collection. This is provided for domestic waste services only.

    • If you are renting a property that is rated as a commercial or business or a non-rateable property, speak to your real estate agent or property manager for options to best manage your waste.

    • If you are the owner and would like to know more about rating categories review the Land Valuations and Rating Categories page.

  • I have a missed mattress or missed bulky waste item collection?

If your mattress, fridge/freezer, or bulky waste was not collected on your bulky waste collection day, please contact the Waste Hotline on 1800 079 390.

    Important Notes:

    • Mattresses and fridges/freezers are collected by separate recycling contractors at a different time to other materials on your bulky waste collection day. They must be accessible, placed to the side of other items and not placed under other items.

    • Bulky Waste materials can only be placed on the kerbside the night before collection. Non-presentation will still count as one or both of your allocated collections, based on the booking you made.

    • Items not collected due to failure to follow the Terms and Conditions (e.g. not booking a mattress or fridge/freezer) remain your responsibility. You must:

      • Remove the items from the kerbside immediately, or fines may apply for illegal dumping of waste, before either:

        • Rescheduling a bulky waste collection (if you have remaining allocations), or

        • Dispose of items at your own cost.
