I am excited to welcome back the Georges River Memory Walk & Jog on Saturday 26 September. Join us at Gannons Park, Peakhurst, to support a cause that touches the lives of so many Australians.
This important community event raises funds for Dementia Australia to support people impacted by dementia. Every dollar raised helps fund vital services including:
-
counselling
-
education programs
-
support helplines
-
research
The event will be held during Dementia Action Week 2026. This year’s theme, “It’s time to talk about dementia”, encourages all Australians to have open conversations about dementia and help reduce stigma around the condition.
As a recognised member of Dementia Australia’s Dementia-Friendly Communities program, it’s important that Council continues to build a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for everyone in our community.
Dementia affects hundreds of thousands of Australians. According to Dementia Australia, an estimated 446,500 Australians are currently living with dementia. Events like the Memory Walk & Jog help raise awareness, build understanding and provide support for those affected.
Last year, more than 300 participants raised over $22,500 for Dementia Australia. It was a fantastic example of our community spirit, and I know we can achieve the same great result again this year.
Whether you choose to walk, jog, or simply show your support, I encourage everyone to get involved. Together, we can help make a difference to the lives of people living with dementia and those who care for them.
