Mental Health Month Author Talk: The Dopamine Brain with Anastasia Hronis
This is a Council led event.
22/10/2026 - Clive James Library, Kogarah.
During Mental Health Month, join us at Clive James Library, Kogarah for an author talk with Dr. Anastasia Hronis.
Why do some habits feel so hard to control, even when we “know better”? In this author talk, clinical psychologist and addiction researcher Dr. Anastasia Hronis unpacks the neuroscience of dopamine – the brain chemical that drives our motivation, habits and reward-seeking behaviours.
Drawing on her book The Dopamine Brain, Anastasia explains how everyday activities like social media, shopping, eating, sex, drugs and gambling can powerfully shape our choices, sometimes pulling us away from the life we truly want to live.
She will share practical, evidence-based strategies to recognise dopamine-driven patterns, break unhelpful habits and begin to live with more intention, balance and purpose.
This session is ideal for anyone curious about the brain, mental health, addiction, or simply wanting to better understand their own behaviours and build a more meaningful, values-aligned life. Time for questions will be provided and The Dopamine Brain will be available for purchase following the event.
