Legacies

Dragon's Lair Gallery
4 May - 16 June 2024.

Drawing on photographs taken during her time as Carss Park Artist in Residence, Bernadette Smith’s Legacies exhibition explored the relationship between migration, colonialism, and the environment.

Reflecting on her identity as the child of a migrant and a fourth-generation settler, Bernadette presented a visual and philosophical meditation on changes wrought by settlers to the land and its First Nations, as well as an examination of the plight of those forced to emigrate from far-away homelands.
