Celebrating Art and Creativity: Entries Now Open for the Georges River Art Prize 2025

Entries are now open for Georges River Council’s biennial Georges River Art Prize, with over $20,000 in prize money up for grabs.
 
Hosted by Hurstville Museum & Gallery, the iconic exhibition not only showcases a range of the finest paintings and sculptures produced from national artists, but also provides local young artists with a chance to display their works.
 
The Prize highlights artworks of various media, exploring subject matter that reflects contemporary art practice in Australia. As a part of this year’s prize there are seven categories, including the acquisitive Georges River Art Prize for painting which offers a prize of $10,000, and there is also a Georges River Sculpture Prize of $5,000.
 
Artists who enter the Georges River Art Prize for painting and live in the Georges River Council Local Government Area are eligible to be considered for the Georges River Local Artist Prize. The Local Artist Prize winner will receive a $4,000 prize and the opportunity to have a future solo exhibition at Hurstville Museum & Gallery in the Dragon’s Lair Gallery.
 
To exhibit and encourage young artists there are two categories, the Georges River Little Artist Prize for 7- to 12-year-olds and the Georges River Youth Prize for 13 to17 year olds, with winners receiving a voucher prize of $200 and $300 respectively.
 
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “The Georges River Art Prize is a wonderful celebration of creativity and talent in our community.
 
“It is a fabulous opportunity to showcase creativity, share a unique artistic vision and celebrate art and culture.
 
“I encourage all artists, from emerging talents to seasoned professionals, to enter the Georges River Art Prize. I can’t wait to see the incredible works that will be displayed at the exhibition,” added the Mayor.
 
Three esteemed judges will assess the artworks and select their winners.

The exhibition of finalists works will be on display at Hurstville Museum & Gallery and the Clive James Library and Service Centre in Kogarah, with the opening taking place on Friday 29 August 2025, 6.00pm to 8.00pm.
 
The exhibition will be on display until Sunday 21 December 2025.
