Next week, on Wednesday 7 May 2025, I am proud to stand with our community at the St George Candlelight Vigil, held in partnership with the St George Domestic Violence Committee, to mark National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day.
The vigil is an important event for our community to come together to pay respect to victims, show our support for survivors, and stand united against domestic and family violence.
Statistics paint a stark reality:
-
1 in 4 women have experienced violence or abuse by a partner since the age of 15.
-
In 2024, one woman was killed every five days in Australia due to domestic violence.
These numbers are not just statistics; they represent real lives, real stories, and a reality that we, as a community, must confront and change.
Domestic violence is not tolerated in Georges River. The more we speak out, the stronger our message becomes, and together, we can build a society where violence, in any form, is unacceptable.
I encourage everyone to join us for this important evening. Let’s continue to stand united, with hope, compassion, and a commitment to building a safer, stronger Georges River for all.
