Heritage Festival: Unearthed Stories Evening
This is a Council led event.
09/05/2025 - Clive James Library, Kogarah.
Join us for the Unearthed Stories Evening, and uncover strange, spooky, and magical tales of the past through objects and stories from the Georges River Libraries and Hurstville Museum & Gallery collections.
The evening begins at 6.00pm with light refreshments and time to explore the exhibition which features eerie stories and rare items like corporal punishment books, wartime ephemera, hair jewelry and much more. At 6.30 pm, our expert staff will share the fascinating histories behind these artifacts, revealing hidden stories such as the local legend of Cocky Bennett, ghostly hauntings, and murder. After the talks, enjoy more time to explore the exhibition further.
This event is perfect for curious minds who love uncovering strange, spooky, and unexplained tales. Whether you're passionate about local history or the eerie, this night will captivate your imagination.
Staff talks will run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, followed by a Q&A session.
The event takes place in the foyer of Clive James Library, Kogarah. The photo exhibition, showcasing photos, posters, and newspaper articles, will be on display from 1-25 May 2025. Artifacts will only be displayed on the night of the event. Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot today!
About the Local History Team:
Our Local History Team support the preservation and promotion of the Georges River Council through the research and collection of local historical materials such as maps, photographs and newspapers to gain a deeper understanding of our history, culture, and community.
The team also coordinates Georges River Council’s Historical Markers Program which launched in 2018. The program recognises people and places of historical and cultural importance, as recommended by the local community. Each year Council will fund and install up to five new historical markers and invites the community to submit nominations.
Is there a historic person, or place in Georges River you would like to nominate? Georges River Council - Historical markers nominations are open until 11 May 2025.
