Step into the Unearthed Exhibition and discover untold and forgotten stories of Georges River. Running from 1 May to 25 May 2025 in the foyer of Clive James Library, Kogarah, this free exhibition showcases lesser-known histories and untold stories, through photos, posters, and newspaper articles from the Georges River Libraries Local Studies collection.
Wander through the exhibition and explore fascinating images that highlight eerie legends, strange histories, and forgotten local tales. You’ll encounter captivating images and gain insight into the magical, mysterious, and mystifying stories of our local past. Discover the unexpected side of history, from local legends like Cocky Bennett and ghostly hauntings to tales of the Minister for Murder and much more.
The exhibition is for all ages—families, history enthusiasts, and anyone curious about the strange and mystical. There is no prior experience or equipment needed to engage with the exhibition.
The exhibition is curated by the Research and Community History staff at Georges River Libraries and is designed to be self guided.
About the Local History Team:
Our Local History Team support the preservation and promotion of the Georges River Council through the research and collection of local historical materials such as maps, photographs and newspapers to gain a deeper understanding of our history, culture, and community.
The team also coordinates Georges River Council’s Historical Markers Program which launched in 2018. The program recognises people and places of historical and cultural importance, as recommended by the local community. Each year Council will fund and install up to five new historical markers and invites the community to submit nominations.
Is there a historic person, or place in Georges River you would like to nominate? Georges River Council - Historical markers nominations are open until 11 May 2025.
