Georges River Council thanks Councillors

At its last meeting, Council recognised and thanked all Councillors for their collaborative approach to making decisions for the Georges River community.

Outgoing Councillors were also given the opportunity to say some words, acknowledging the dedication to collaboration and achieving positive outcomes.

Outgoing Councillors include: 

  • Mayor Sam Elmir, who has served as a Councillor for the area since 2008, and as Mayor of Georges River Council from 2023. 
  • Councillor Nick Katris, who has been on Council for the last 30 years, and as Mayor of Georges River Council from 2021 to 2023. 
  • Councillor Nick Smerdely, who was first elected to Council in 2021. 
  • Councillor Lou Konjarski, who was first elected to Council in 2017. 
  • Councillor Veronica Ficarra, who was first elected to Council in 2022. 
  • Councillor Colleen Symington, who was first elected to Council in 2017.

Georges River Council General Manager David Tuxford said “On behalf of Council's Executive Leadership Team, Council staff, and the community, I want to extend our deepest gratitude to the outgoing Councillors. 

“Their dedicated service, invaluable contributions and strong leadership have made a lasting impact on our community, and we are immensely thankful for the time and effort they’ve invested. 

“We wish them all the best in their future endeavours," he said.
