Georges River Council is inviting the community to help shape the new Todd Park Sport and Public Amenity in Blakehurst, with two design options now open for feedback.
Todd Park is a well-used local hub for sport and recreation. It supports rugby league, cricket, and a range of informal activities. The park also has a playground, bike track and basketball area. Todd Park plays an important role in the daily lives of local families and sporting groups.
The existing amenities building overlooks the main fields. It includes public toilets, changerooms, storage and a small canteen. However, it no longer meets current safety or accessibility standards, and its layout limits how well it can support modern sport and community use.
As part of Council’s rolling amenity upgrade program, this presents a strong opportunity for renewal. Replacing the ageing facility will deliver a safer, more accessible and better-designed space that meets today’s needs and supports future growth.
Council is planning to replace the building with a new, modern facility in a similar location. The upgrade will improve access, safety and overall user experience for the whole community.
Both design options include a range of core improvements, including:
-
Four fully accessible and compliant changerooms
-
Modern, gender-neutral public toilets
-
Referees’ changerooms
-
Dedicated storage for sporting groups
-
A shared canteen with storage
-
A new clubroom
-
Improved site access, including ramps, footpaths
-
A drinking fountain
These upgrades will create a safer and more inclusive space for all members of the community. The improvements will also improve lighting and security, making the facility easier to use during the evening.
Council is now asking the community to choose between two design options:
-
Option A delivers all core upgrades. It focuses on a modern, practical facility that meets the needs of sporting groups and everyday park users.
-
Option B includes all of the above features, along with a proposed gym. The gym has been put forward by St George District Rugby League Football Club.
The proposed gym would be fully funded by the Club, at no cost to Council or the community. It would support both elite and junior programs based at Todd Park. It would also be open to the wider community under a formal access agreement.
Mayor Elise Borg said the project is a direct result of long-term community feedback and planning.
“This upgrade is about creating a facility that works for everyone who uses Todd Park.
“We’ve listened to our community and our sporting groups, and now we want people to tell us which option best meets their needs.”
The project builds on previous consultation and the adopted Carss Bush Park and Todd Park Master Plan.
The community is encouraged to review both design options and provide feedback via Council’s Your Say webpage.
Consultation closes on Friday 10 July.
