Young Artists Shine in "Yellow" Exhibition at Hurstville Museum & Gallery

16/09/2024

Hurstville Museum & Gallery is pleased to present Yellow, a new exhibition in the Dragon’s Lair Gallery, showcasing the artwork of students aged 5-16 from Art Wonderland Studio in Peakhurst. The exhibition will run from 28 September to 11 November 2024 and explores the theme of yellow, as evoked through varied techniques and mediums in the children’s inspired artworks.

Art Wonderland Studio was founded in 2016 by Sydney illustrator Heli Yang, who wanted to create a space where young artists could develop their skills. Today, the studio teaches over 200 students mainly from the Georges River area in a supportive environment.

“Yellow is a warm and joyful colour,” says Heli Yang. “It reminds us of daffodils, the sun, and stars in the night sky. We encourage the art students to present the artworks by using their unlimited imagination and exaggeration techniques without formalisation.”

The use of yellow as a unifying theme across the students’ artworks ties them together, creating a cohesive visual experience and highlighting the various application methods employed by the budding artists. Heli believes that exhibitions like this help young artists grow in confidence and connect with the community.

The official opening of Yellow will take place on Sunday, 29 September 2024, at 2.30pm at Hurstville Museum & Gallery. The community is invited to attend and celebrate the creativity of these talented young artists.
