Hurstville Museum & Gallery presents: 1X4 – An Exhibition of Stories

17/07/2024

The Hurstville Museum & Gallery is thrilled to open a new touring exhibition called "1X4" from 10 August to 27 October 2024. This exhibition showcases 23 historical objects from the Newcastle Museum collection, each one telling four different stories. Visitors can read or listen to these stories using their mobile phones, making the experience interactive and fun.

On display is a variety of wonderful objects, including a convict-made brick, a Homing Pigeon Trophy, and a silk-embroidered WWI postcard. The exhibition also includes four special objects from the Hurstville Museum & Gallery collection. Through telling multiple stories about each object, this exhibition allows visitors to see history from different viewpoints.

The "1X4" exhibition is perfect for families, students, and history enthusiasts. It encourages everyone to think about how different stories can come from the same object. The interactive format makes learning fun and engaging, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace.

Mayor of Georges River Council, Sam Elmir, invites everyone to visit the exhibition. "This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about Australia’s history in a new and exciting way," said Mayor Elmir. "We hope everyone in our community comes to enjoy the stories and see history presented from different perspectives."

Come and discover the fascinating stories behind these remarkable objects! The exhibition's opening, with guest speaker, Director of the Newcastle Museum, Julie Baird, is on Friday 9th August at 6.00pm.

The secrets of 1X4 are revealed via your mobile phone or tablet by visiting 1x4.com.au. If you would like to delve deeper, remember to pack your headphones for an audio tour!
