Whether you’re a budding ornithologist or just think birds are really neat, you’re invited to join us at Birding for Beginners these holidays. There’ll be bird themed books, craft featuring some feathered friends, and you’ll learn how you can become a real life scientist, just by watching the birds around you.

As well as being fine holiday fun, this program will help you prepare for Birdlife Australia’s Aussie Bird Count at the end of October, either as part of a library program, or with your own family and friends.

Birdlife Australia’s Aussie Bird Count is a Citizen Scientist project where the public go birdwatching in their local area to help create data about Australia’s bird population. This data is used by professional scientists in their work to protect vulnerable species and improve biodiversity all over the country.

• All materials and equipment will be provided. 

• ​For participants aged 12 years and under, parents and/or guardians of children must remain in the library for the duration of the program. For safety reasons, one parent/guardian can only be responsible for a maximum of 4 children (1:4 ratio).

• For participants under the age of 16, parent and/or guardian contact details must be provided at the time of booking.

• If you arrive more than 10 minutes after the advertised start time and there are people in the standby queue, your ticket may be allocated to the standby queue.

• If you are unable to attend, please cancel your registration at least 3 hours prior to the event. As Library Programs have limited spaces and repeated failure to notify staff of cancellations, bookings may be refused in the future.

• The library does not endorse or promote any products which may be used in the workshop.
