Art in the Afternoon - Mixed media drawing with Amy Scully (Council Led Event)

08/09/2024 - Hurstville Museum & Gallery.

Join us on the second Sunday of the month to explore your creative side.

Experience mindful approaches to artmaking and try new techniques and mediums as you express yourself and enhance your wellbeing. Find your voice while you cultivate creativity. These sessions are ideal for participants seeking to connect with themselves, their creativity and community. Each session will focus on different themes and mediums.

In this workshop you will be guided to explore stories and respond to objects as prompts for drawing while exploring our current Main Gallery exhibition, 1X4. We will draw what we see and feel with a range of materials including charcoal, pencils and markers, and create narrative through text. This class is great for people wanting to loosen up their approach to still life!

Delivered by Amy Scully:
Amy is a creative based in Sutherland shire, working across film, theatre and as a visual artist and educator with passion for wellbeing through creativity. Amy also teaches Yoga and is an emerging art therapist. By drawing on mindful approaches to art-making, Amy’s workshops are playful, engaging, relaxing and aim to honour the creative spirit in all participants wherever they are on their journey.

About the 1X4 exhibition:
Museums use objects to tell stories. It sounds simple but it’s complicated. Objects can tell multiple stories from many points of view. So, who chooses the story? Which story is the truth? In museums, curators choose an interpretation but 1X4 turns this upside down. Each object in this exhibition tells four distinct stories. You can listen to or read each of the four stories, or some, or none and just enjoy the beauty of the objects. Every story is the truth about the object and is a valid way to view the object, but they are all different.

1x4 is a travelling exhibition developed by Newcastle Museum.
