Have Your Say on Exhibition Redesign at Hurstville Museum & Gallery

23/07/2025

Georges River Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on a proposed redesign of the permanent exhibition at Hurstville Museum & Gallery, St. George Stories: People – Places – Community.

The exhibition, which first opened in 2015, explores the rich history of the St. George region from its First Nations heritage through to the diverse communities who call the area home today.

The redesign aims to better reflect the evolving identity of the local area, highlight under-represented stories, and improve the visitor experience through modernised design and interactive elements. This project is supported by the NSW Premier’s Social Cohesion program.

Council is seeking community feedback on the current exhibition, suggestions for improvements, and expressions of interest in contributing personal or family migration stories to be included in the updated display.

Community members are also invited to join a guided walk and workshop on Monday 29 July 2025 to provide feedback on the exhibition’s content and accessibility.

Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, “Hurstville Museum & Gallery is an important cultural space that celebrates our shared history.

“We want to ensure the permanent exhibition continues to reflect the diversity, depth and lived experience of the Georges River community.”

“I encourage all residents to share their ideas and help shape this exciting exhibition redesign.”

The public consultation period closes on 9 August 2025.
